inform you that His Majesty has been

pleased to confirm the provisional

appointment of Mr. John Johnstone

Paterson to be temporarily an Unofficial

Member of the Legislative Council of

Hong Kong in the place of Mr. B.D.F.

Beith.

2. I have also to convey to

you His Majesty's instructions for

the definitive appointment of

Mr. Paterson to be an Unofficial

Member of the said Council.

3. With regard to the second

paragraph of your despatch I would

point out that in 1930 Mr. Paterson

was
